Kimberly Brown, founder and CEO of Amethyst Technologies, LLC, has been honored with the prestigious Maryland International Business Leadership Award by the World Trade Center Institute (WTCI) in 2025.

Amethyst Technologies, LLC, established in 2006 and headquartered at bwtech@UMBC is a leading provider of compliance and quality assurance services across various regulated industries, including biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and global health.

Under Brown’s leadership, Amethyst Technologies has significantly impacted global health initiatives, supporting efforts against HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis, Ebola, SARS-CoV-2, and cancer.

Amethyst improved diagnostics and health outcomes for over 1,000,000 HIV/AIDS patients in Tanzania and enhanced the quality of diagnostics for government healthcare facilities in 10 Kenyan Counties. Additionally, Amethyst played a crucial role during the Ebola outbreak in Liberia by training healthcare workers and assessing hospitals in Iraq for compliance with international standards.

Beyond her entrepreneurial endeavors, Brown actively contributes to the academic and business communities. She serves on the Clark School Board of Visitors at the University of Maryland, providing strategic guidance to the engineering school. Her commitment to mentorship and leadership development has made her a respected figure among aspiring entrepreneurs and professionals.

The Maryland International Business Leadership Award recognizes individuals who drive change within the state and globally. Brown’s dedication to enhancing global health standards and her entrepreneurial spirit exemplify the qualities celebrated by this award.

The award ceremony, held in March 2025 at the M&T Bank Exchange, brought together over 300 business leaders, including Governor of Maryland Wes Moore and over 70 presidents and CEOs, to honor Brown and other distinguished leaders.

Brown’s recognition not only highlights her personal achievements but also underscores the vital role of innovative leadership in addressing global health challenges.
