Harish Reddy Manyam, a 2024 graduate of UMBC with a Master’s in Data Science, has rapidly emerged as a leader in artificial intelligence and data-driven problem-solving. His journey from student to AI Advisor demonstrates how talent, determination, strong mentorship, and an adventurous spirit can lead to remarkable success.
Transforming Healthcare Through AI
Shortly after graduating, Harish secured a full-time engineering position with Marshfield Clinic Health System. Recognized for his innovative data science solutions, exceptional analytical skills, and ability to optimize complex systems, Harish was given the additional responsibility of AI Advisor, where he now leads efforts to integrate artificial intelligence into healthcare operations, improving efficiency and patient outcomes.
Pivotal Support from the UMBC
Harish’s journey was strongly influenced by the immense support, mentorship, and critical opportunities he received from the UMBC community. Notable mentors include:
- Dr. Ergun Simsek, Director of MPS Data Science, inspired him with his first speech to the class. Their collaboration led to a published research paper in IET, titled Classification with Electromagnetic Waves.
- Data Science professor, Mr. Mehmet Sarica, invited Harish to be his Graduate Teaching Assistant, a key milestone role.
- Dr. Abdullah Karasan, an Adjunct Professor, nurtured Harish’s passion for applied AI and entrepreneurship. Their collaborations led to the development of LeverBot, a no-code Generative AI chatbot, and extended to Leveragai, a bwtech client startup founded by Dr. Karasan, where Harish contributed valuable technical expertise and strategic guidance, helping to refine the company’s AI strategies.
- Christine Routzahn, Director of the UMBC Career Center, played a critical role in helping Harish secure key internships that paved the way for his career, including a Data Analyst Internship at the Maryland Department of Health where Harish developed SQL queries and Python scripts to analyze electronic health records and claims data, directly contributing to patient safety initiatives.
- Marjie Cota, Director of Entrepreneurial Services at bwtech@UMBC, whose guidance opened a new door for Harish, encouraging him to think big and pursue his entrepreneurial dream of starting his own company one day.
Maryland Momentum Fund Fellow & Startup Support
During his time at UMBC, Harish was selected as a Maryland Momentum Fund (MMF) Fellow for the 2023-2024 cohort, a competitive, prestigious program that prepares students for careers in venture capital by providing tools, training, and practical experience. His selection highlights his potential to drive transformative change in various sectors.
Global Recognition for Research Excellence
Harish’s contributions to the field extend beyond industry applications—his research has also gained international recognition. His paper on electromagnetics, is under review for presentation at the 26th International Conference on Electromagnetics in Advanced Applications (ICEAA 2025), further solidifying his reputation as a thought leader in technology and innovation.
Paying It Forward
Harish is committed to giving back to the community at UMBC which was instrumental in his growth and success. As a panelist at the upcoming International Student Career Conference on March 28, 2025, Harish will provide firsthand advice to current students navigating the job search process in the U.S., aiming to help others overcome challenges and seize opportunities as he did.
The Power of Family Support
Harish attributes much of his success to the unwavering support of his family, who instilled in him the confidence and courage to pursue his passions fearlessly. His father, Narasmiha Reddy, always believed in him—never comparing him to others or pressuring him about grades but instead encouraging him to define success on his terms. His mother, Eswaramma, and sister, Manisha, encouraged him to embrace new challenges, like public speaking as frequently as possible, helping Harish develop the confidence and leadership skills that set him apart today. Their encouragement fueled his adventurous mindset and gave him the courage to take risks, explore opportunities, and push beyond his limits, shaping him into the accomplished professional he has become.
Passion for Adventure
Beyond his academic and professional endeavors, Harish is an avid traveler and photographer. Having visited 25 states across the U.S., he finds inspiration in exploring new places, meeting new people, and capturing unique perspectives through his lens. His adventurous spirit extends beyond his career, fueling his curiosity and creativity in all aspects of life.
