Michael L. Salgaller, Ph.D.: Supervisor, Technology Analysis and Marketing Unit (TAMU), NIH Office of Technology Transfer
Dr. Salgaller leads the Technology Analysis and Marketing Unit (TAMU) at the NIH’s Technology Transfer Office, applying over 20 years of experience across business, science, and investment in the life sciences to support technology commercialization. He previously served as VP at The Conafay Group and President of Biologics Consulting Group, and was part of the investment team at an early-stage life science venture firm. Michael began his career at the NIH and later held leadership roles in biotech R&D, including at Northwest Biotherapeutics. He is the author of Biotechnology Entrepreneurship, has published over 70 scientific and business articles, teaches entrepreneurship at the NIH, and holds a PhD in Pathology from The Ohio State University.
Malek Kechrid: Fellow, Technology Analysis and Marketing Unit (TAMU), NIH Office of Technology Transfer
Malek is a fellow in the Technology Analysis and Marketing Unit (TAMU) at the NIH’s Technology Transfer Office. Her background is in Biotechnology, with a specific focus on biosecurity and biodefense. Malek is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Health Sciences with a specialization in Global Health. Within TAMU, Malek’s responsibilities include business development and technology analysis.
Steven M. Ferguson, CLP: Special Advisor, NIH Office of Technology Transfer
Steven M. Ferguson is Special Advisor at the NIH Office of Technology Transfer, where he has worked since 1990. He supports one of the world’s largest biomedical tech transfer programs, with over 2,000 active licenses and more than $10B in annual product sales, including 48 FDA-approved drugs and vaccines. A former chemist and biotech product manager, he holds advanced degrees in chemistry and business, is a registered Patent Agent, and a Certified Licensing Professional (CLP). Steven has taught at the NIH’s FAES Graduate School and BIO’s “Boot Camp,” and serves on multiple advisory boards and review panels. He has published widely in the field and is the recipient of numerous national awards for his contributions to technology transfer.
